2012 - 2013 Season
by Bret Taylor
Nov 6, 2012
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are having an up and down season but they're coming off a big win at Maryland. Head Coach Paul Johnson's team runs the ball more than twice as much as they throw it so the Tar Heels know they'll be in for a physical Saturday. But his defense this season has been downright porous. They've given up 40 or more points in four out of their five losses this season and they'll have their hands full against UNC.
Johnson's option offense took advantage of Maryland last week as both quarterbacks, starter Tevin Washington and backup Vad Lee, rushed for scores. Both quarterbacks also attempted just four passes in the game. So it doesn't really matter who is in the backfield UNC can expect the play to be a run.
While inelligible for the post-season the Tar Heels have had an impressive season. They've only lost three games with the largest margin of defeat being a five -point loss to undefeated Louisville. Gio Bernard is a legitimate Heisman candidate having rushed for 930 yards so far this season and scoring ten times.
The Tar Heels also have two furture NFL first rounders on their offensive and defensive lines in guard Jonathan Cooper and defensive tackle Sylvester Williams.
So if you love smash-mouth football then this is the game for you. Tune in Saturday at 11:30am.
