Coach Jerry Comalander
Lead Color Analyst

Jerry Comalander is a legend in San Antonio Sports! From 1973-2015, Comalander worked for NEISD. Jerry was Head Football Coach at Churchill for 13 seasons and led the Chargers to the Class 4A state championship in 1976. Churchill went 15-0 and won the title in what was then the University Interscholastic League’s largest classification. Inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame in 2008, Comalander was awarded in the Texas High School Coaches Hall of Honor and the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association Hall of Honor.

When Comalander left coaching to succeed Jimmy Littleton as NEISD Athletic Director, he took on the challenges of his new job with the same zeal and competitive ferocity that defined him as a coach. NEISD teams won 24 state championships during Comalander’s watch, a testament to the strength of the district’s overall athletic program.

When asked who is your mentor? Jerry answered: “Marvin Gustafson. I started with Coach Gustafson and spent 12 years with him in three different schools. He was the best. The foundation for whatever success I was privileged to be part of in my career began with Coach Gus. We coached hard and had many good times including family time. I learned early on to make it FAITH – FAMILY – FOOTBALL.”
